Simulation of clouds and circulation of Jupiter’s atmospheric weather layer

On the left is shown a snapshot from a model simulation of the clouds and circulation of Jupiter’s atmospheric weather layer alongside a real image of Jupiter’s clouds from the Cassini spacecraft. The model simulation was obtained using DiRAC and shows the distribution of the column density of water ice clouds forming zonal bands, much like as seen on Jupiter itself.
